What is a natural diamond?

A natural diamond is - as the name suggests - a diamond that is naturally made in the earth under conditions of high pressure and temperature. They are made from carbon and form over billions of years. Natural diamonds can be contrasted with lab grown diamonds; these look and feel like natural diamonds but are man made in a lab rather than naturally produced.

Which natural diamond shape should I choose?

As with any diamond, natural diamonds can come in a wide variety of shapes. These range from a more traditional shape, such as the classic round brilliant cut or luxurious cushion cut, through to more unique shapes like pear-shaped and heart-shaped diamonds. The choice of natural diamond shape ultimately comes down to choices like which setting you want to choose, how you’ll wear your ring, and the type of diamond you choose.

Which engagement ring setting should I choose?

As with diamond shapes, you can pick from a range of different settings when designing your perfect natural diamond engagement ring. Settings range from the simple beauty of the solitaire ring shape through to the dazzling trilogy ring style, which features three diamonds. Certain settings work best with certain shapes; for example, pear diamonds are more commonly found in prong settings.

How much should an engagement ring cost?

The general rule of thumb for how much a natural diamond engagement ring should cost is three months salary. However, knowing how much you should spend on an engagement ring is tricky, and it is really up to you how much you decide to spend. There are many factors influencing the price of a natural diamond engagement ring, including the colour, clarity, cut and carat of the diamond you choose.
